Baz Ashmawy, star of 50 Ways to Kill Your Mammy, will return to Sky 1 as host of a brand new quiz show entitled The Fanatics.

The new quiz show, featuring a series of eight one-hour long episodes, has only just been commissioned and will be produced by Victory Television, a joint venture with Sony Pictures Television.

Entertainment show 50 Ways to Kill Your Mammy featured Ashmawy and his 71-year old mother Nancy as they embarked on a number of adventures around the world.

It was a hit on Sky 1 in both the Ireland and the UK and Sky has high hopes that The Fanatics will have the same effect.

The quiz show will bring together people who are incredibly passionate, obsessed and devoted to certain aspects of life.

“The Fanatics will make heroes out of the most unlikely contestants and celebrate the most passionate, most committed and, sometimes, most eccentric people in what’s set to be a fun contest for fact fans everywhere,” said Chris Brogden, Commissioning Editor for Sky Entertainment.

Contestants’ knowledge of their various obsessions will be put to the ultimate test in a bid to find the king of the Fanatics.

Across a series of rounds, three contestants will be tested on their powers of recall, observation, dexterity and depth of knowledge relating to their chosen subject.

Ashmawy said he was excited to be involved and believes the show will be a “lot of fun” to produce, while praising the vision of those at Sky and Victory Television.

“It’s a quirky, fun show with wonderfully warm, interesting and slightly obsessive contestants,” he said.

Director of Sky 1 Adam MacDonald commissioned the show which will fill the highly coveted 8pm slot when it airs in early 2015.
Macdonald added that Sky 1 was delighted that Ashmawy had agreed to host The Fanatics, adding: “It is a big joyous celebration of the passions that enthrall us and Baz is perfect to drive it.”
