Netflix changes are good news for consumers
The ability to download shows and unrestricted access to streaming across the EU are both big news.
In the last week, Netflix has been in the news a lot for two reasons - both of which are good news for customers.
Netflix users can now download and watch on the go
In addition to being able to stream, Netflix members worldwide can now download series and films at no extra cost.
This means that - if you’re a Netflix member - you’ll no longer have to stop your binge watch when you leave the house.
Instead, you just have to click the ‘download’ button on the details page for a film or TV series and you can watch it later without an internet connection. This feature is included in all plans, and available for phones and tablets on Android and iOS.
There are lots of series and movies already available for download - for example recent Netflix hits like Orange is The New Black, Narcos and The Crown - with more to be added shortly.
To start using this feature, you’ll just need to update your app to the most recent version. It should make the commute a bit more bearable!
New EU rules for streaming services
In addition to the download news, new rules passed by the European Parliament last week will compel providers of online streaming services to offer the same access in different EU member states.
The measures mean that Netflix members will be able to use their Netflix account without restriction across the EU - currently, access is restricted if the member is outside their own country.
These changes are sure to be welcomed by anyone who regularly travels and doesn’t like interrupting their viewing schedule while they’re away.
However, the rules still need to be approved by the European Commission and European Council – so watch this space!
