Sky Sports to show International Champions Cup live

Pre-season tournament to feature eight of Europe's top football club

In the middle of the 2014 Fifa World Cup, Sky Sports has now announced that it will be showing live coverage of a pre-season tournament - the International Champions Cup. The TV, broadband and phone provider will be showing matches live in July and August.

Eight of Europe’s leading clubs are lined up to take part in the US-hosted tournament, including Premier League champions Manchester City, runners-up Liverpool, and Champions League winners Real Madrid. Manchester United are also taking part, and they’ll be looking to the tournament to launch a more impressive League start than last term.

Three Italian giants, Roma, AC Milan, Inter Milan, and Greek side Olympiacos are the other four clubs involved. Sky will be broadcasting matches from a number of different American cities.

The eight participating teams will be split up into two groups of four, and the winner of each group will go straight through to the final. The first game is on Thursday, July 24th, at 12.30am, will be between AC Milan and Olympiacos. The next match will see Inter take on Real Madrid on Saturday, July 26th. Sky Sports viewers will be able to see this game live from 10.30pm.

On the following Sunday two games will be broadcast live by Sky, and both matches will feature Premier League clubs. At 9pm, Manchester City play AC Milan, and then Liverpool face Olympiacos two hours later. Sky Sports 1 HD will offer live coverage of both matches.

On Tuesday, July 29th Real Madrid are up against Roma at 2am, while, the following day, Liverpool and Manchester City lock horns at 11.30pm. On Monday, August 4th in Miami the Group A winner will take on the Group B winner in the final.
