Sky to start filming season 2 of Penny Dreadful in Dublin
Stars Helen McCrory and Simon Russell Beale promoted to series regulars
Sky has announced production on season 2 of the critically-acclaimed Penny Dreadful begins this Friday in Dublin, with the ten-episode second season to be broadcast on Sky Atlantic HD in 2015.
The cast of the award-winning first season, led by Eva Green, Josh Hartnett, Timothy Dalton, and Reeve Carney, is expected to return. Helen McCrory and Simon Russell Beale, who each appeared in two episodes this year, will become series regulars.
Joining them in guest-starring roles are Sarah Greene (Vikings) as McCrory’s on-screen daughter, Hecate; Patti LuPone (American Horror Story), a curious unnamed character known to Vanessa (Eva Green); Douglas Hodge (Robin Hood) as police investigator Bartholomew Rusk; and Jonny Beauchamp (Stonewall) as a young man with an interesting backstory.
Earlier this year, the first season was celebrated as one of the Most Exciting New Series at the Critics’ Choice Television Awards, winning the award alongside Fox’s upcoming series Gotham, AMC’s Halt and Catch Fire, FX’s The Strain, and HBO’s The Leftovers.
John Logan (Skyfall), renowned writer and creator of the show, has returned to write the second season, with James Hawes back to direct the first episode of the new season, entitled ‘Fresh Hell’.
Penny Dreadful remains at home on Sky Atlantic HD, with Sky being the only digital TV provider currently set to offer the anticipated ten-episode season next year.
