'Tis the Season! Here are the best Christmas ads of 2016...
It's not all about John Lewis any more!
In recent years, it seems like Christmas ads have become as big a part of Christmas in Ireland as the Late Late Toy Show and complaining that the tins of Roses are getting smaller.
Back in the day, we had the image of a young Alan Hughes coming home for Christmas in ESB’s most famous ad, and of course the Coca Cola Holidays are Coming ad, with its signature red truck, is a mainstay of Christmas ad breaks at this stage.
But what about the offerings for 2016? We’ve gathered the best of the bunch below - see what you think…
John Lewis - Buster the Boxer
John Lewis has been cranking out great Christmas ads for the last 10 years, but it was 2011’s The Long Wait that really brought them into a league of their own.
Since then, we’ve had classics like The Bear and the Hare, Monty the Penguin and last year’s somewhat controversial Man on Moon.
This year, you’d be forgiven for thinking John Lewis could be playing it safe somewhat - after all, who doesn’t want to see a boxer dog jumping around on a trampoline?
Aldi - The Amazing Christmas Carrot
Perhaps surprisingly, Aldi’s offering this year is one of the most talked about ads so far.
It features ‘Kevin’, the Christmas carrot on a plight to meet Santa on Christmas Eve…
Lidl - Homecoming
One of the more heart-wrenching of this year’s bunch, Lidl’s Christmas ad for 2016 is all about family…
Marks and Spencer - Christmas With Love from Mrs. Claus
A twist on the traditional image of Santa delivering presents on Christmas Eve, this one instead focusses on Mrs. Claus.
Another one to pull on the heart-strings, this involves a little boy called Jake looking for the perfect present for his sister.
There’s more where that came from…
There’s still 5 weeks to go until the big day, so no doubt we’ll be inundated with even more ads as the season rolls on.
Hard to avoid when you’re enjoying plenty of cosy evenings in front of the TV!
