UPC report customer number increase in Q1 2015

Total subscriptions at the start of 2015 are up 18,000 to reach over 1 million

UPC Ireland continued to perform strongly in Q1 2015 as the provider welcomed 18,000 new subscribers to its range of services.

Total subscriptions reached 1,101,900 at the end of March as customers opted for UPC’s fibre broadband, Horizon TV services and phone services.

UPC stated that its acquisition of Bitbuzz, completed last December, aided growth of 8% in first quarter revenues.

A boost in customer numbers

The company reported overall growth of 2% year-on-year while fibre broadband subscriptions totalled 365,800 at the end of the quarter.

This represented 5% year-on-year growth while phone subscriptions increased 12% to 349,600.

UPC customers with digital TV subscriptions totalled 321,500 at the end of the quarter, driven in part by the popularity of Horizon TV which has grown in scale since its summer 2013 launch.

Carol Grennan, Chief Financial Officer of UPC Ireland, described it as a “positive start to the year” and said the firm is “continually making strong process”.

She reflected on the quarter which saw UPC launch Ireland’s fastest residential fibre broadband service at 240Mbps; a contributory factor to their winning of Best Broadband Provider at the Switcher Broadband 2015 Awards where they scooped three other titles.

Speaking about their achievements, Ms Grennan said:

“We remain focused on delivering extraordinary home entertainment, an exceptional customer experience and the most innovative digital services in the industry.”

She also commented on the company’s Bitbuzz Go offering which provides free and unlimited Wi-Fi to those in the hospitality sector.

In addition to these services, UPC also launched My Prime in the first quarter of this year to provide their customers with access to a host of movies, box sets and top programming at no extra cost.

The firm also lent its support to Safer Internet Day and Get Online Week in Ireland once again with events focused on developing awareness of technology in the country.

Last month UPC launched a new range of introductory discounts for new customers - with Free TV & €20 off per month for 6 months available to all new broadband and phone subscribers.

The same discounts also apply to new triple play broadband, TV and phone subscribers with savings up to €330 obtainable during the discount period.
