UPC sees rise in customer numbers for Q3 2014

Latest figures show subscriptions grow by 65,200 to 1,105,200 year-on-year

UPC Ireland’s performance levels in 2014 continued at pace in the third quarter, echoing that seen in the first six months of the year.

Total subscriptions reached 1,105,200 at the end of September – up 13,600 subscriptions from Q2 2014 – as customers choose from the fibre powered broadband and TV and phone bundles on offer.

On a yearly basis, 65,200 customers have chosen UPC subscriptions that did not use the service in the same quarter 12 months previously.

Strong performance for Q3

UPC Ireland now has 359,100 customers using its super fast broadband services; a quarterly increase of 9% year-on-year for subscribers.

The number of UPC customers using phone services increased to 336,300 representing quarterly growth in home phone subscriptions of 21% in Q3.

In terms of digital cable TV services, 335,800 UPC customers now rely on UPC Ireland while Q3 also saw the firm pass the 100,000 customer milestone for its Horizon TV service.

As part of its largest sports marketing campaign, UPC Ireland also launched a Sky Sports offer and partnered with CoderDojo to enhance EU Code Week to boost child learning in Q3.

Looking to the future

UPC Ireland’s chief financial officer Carol Grennan revealed that firm was pleased to show further growth in the subscribers for their TV, broadband and phone bundles through the third quarter.

She explained that UPC’s investment is now in excess of €1 billion and that means the network extends to more than 850,000 premises in 20 main cities and towns.

Half of all Irish homes can receive UPC’s 200Mbps high speed broadband while businesses can receive speeds of up to 500Mbps.

“We continue to focus on innovative new services where we are providing the best overall experience and value for our entire customer base,” said Ms Grennan.

Maedhbh Quinn, Head of Brand and Marketing of UPC Ireland also added: “Our aim is to continuously respond to customer needs with new features and offers to bring their TV and technology enjoyment to a totally new level.”
