In the last couple of weeks, TV3 launched its schedule for autumn and winter - and news that the Irish version of Gogglebox would finally be coming to TV3 was widely welcomed by TV fans.

Now, Virgin Media has been announced as the exclusive sponsor of the show, which is due to hit screens later this month.

As part of the sponsorship, which will include ads around each commercial break and a social media campaign, Virgin Media’s customers will have access to exclusive clips and apps on the move, so they won’t miss a minute of Gogglebox action.

Niamh O’Driscoll, Senior Brand and Communications Manager of Virgin Media, said that this is the first time Virgin Media’s has sponsored a TV show, and that Gogglebox is a great match with the company because it’s “fun, full of surprises and highly entertaining”.

TV3 has already announced that Gogglebox Ireland will be narrated by Irish comedian Deirdre O’Kane and actor Rory Cowan, and that won’t be the only change for the Irish edition, with Gogglebox creator and executive producer Tania Alexander saying: “TV3’s Gogglebox is being produced as a distinctly Irish programme with personalities who reflect a unique and diverse nation.”

Following on from Virgin Media’s acquisition of TV3 and UTV Ireland, this sponsorship move again highlights the company’s commitment to Irish TV, with a focus on Irish-made content. Niamh O’Driscoll said the company has a “number of developments ongoing” with Irish production companies.
