Virgin Media launches mobile handsets, superfast 4G and freestyle plans
Customers can choose from 16 handsets and two contract types, with the flexibility to change between plans any month.
Virgin Media has today announced that its new range of 16 mobile phones, including the Apple iPhone 6s, Samsung Galaxy S7 and Sony Xperia X, will be available from Thursday 7 July.
This comes after the launch of sim-only Virgin Mobile plans last October. Virgin Mobile currently has between 10,000 and 15,000 customers in Ireland.
In addition to the handsets, the company has also launched 12, 18 and 24-month ‘freestyle’ contracts, which split your monthly payments in two - one figure for your handset, and one for your plan.
There are two plans available:
- An unlimited plan, which does what it says on the tin with unlimited 4g data, calls and texts; or
- A 1GB plan, which offers 1GB of data, 250 minutes and 250 texts.
The unlimited plan costs €25 per month for Virgin Media customers, while the 1GB costs €15 per month. Non-Virgin Media customers will pay an additional €5 per month for each plan.
In terms of the monthly phone cost, the newest phones, like the Samsung Galaxy S7 and iPhone 6s, typically cost from €25 per month, while some other models are available from €5-10 per month. There may also be an additional upfront charge, depending on which handset you choose.
One benefit of the freestyle contract is that, once you’ve paid off the cost of your phone, you stop paying that portion of your bill.
You can also upgrade your handset at any stage by paying off the remaining amount owed for the phone only, and you can change between the two plans any month if you so wish.
In addition to the phones and contract plans, Virgin Media has also announced superfast 4G will be included at no extra cost for its customers.
