Airtricity's parent company continues impressive expansion

Airtricity to benefit from new corporate HQ in Dublin and continued SSE investment in Ireland

South County Business Park in Dublin is now home to the new five-storey corporate headquarters (HQ) of the energy provider SSE.

Continuing their rapid expansion in Ireland, the parent company of Airtricity now provides employment for more than 1,500 people including 600 who will be based at the new HQ.

Minister for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources Pat Rabbite TD, was in attendance at a special event to mark the occasion and he acknowledged the companies “continued commitment to and confidence in the Irish economy.”

New projects nationwide

Since its acquisition of Airtricity, the renewable energy company, SSE has embarked on a number of new projects including the planning and development of several wind farms across the country.

While these projects have involved around 200 employees of Airtricity, a further 400 are currently engaged in creating a unit at Great Island in Co. Wexford to produce electricity via a 460MW gas-fired generator.

Having made an investment of €2bn since 2008, when they initially took over Airtricity, SSE’s interests now include street lighting and energy services departments in addition to their offices and electricity generation sites, including wind farms.

The rate of their expansion suggests that the energy provider will continue to be a success story in Ireland.
