Electric Ireland announced today that it will reduce its standard gas unit rates for residential and SME customers by 2.5% from 1st January 2016.

This is the second time Electric Ireland has announced gas price cut in 2015, and follows a previous 2.5% decrease introduced by the supplier on 1st April this year.

When the new 2.5% decrease comes into effect from next January, the average household will save a further €22.22 (including VAT) per year on their gas bills.

Commenting on today’s announcement, Jim Dollard, Executive Director Electric Ireland said;

“We are particularly happy to be able to reduce gas prices ahead of January as it’s the month our customers use the most gas in their homes.

“This follows last month’s electricity price reduction and is Electric Ireland’s second gas price decrease this year for residential customers delivering a cumulative saving of €40 on the average annual residential gas bill.”

The move to reduce the cost of gas will benefit Electric Ireland’s base of over 130,000 natural gas customers.

This second gas price cut announcement from Electric Ireland this year also comes on the same day SSE Airtricity announced a 2% price decrease for its electricity customers.
