The popular Irish broadcaster surprised the radio world by moving to Newstalk this year, after 41 successful years spent at RTE.

As someone who has famously switched, the sponsors hope that listeners will copy him. The retail director of Energia, Gary Ryan, said, “we’re very keen on anyone who makes a switch.”

The Pat Kenny Show is a current affairs radio show, which will be broadcast for two and a half hours every morning during the week.

The sponsorship contract is for a six-figure sum and will last for a minimum of a year.

Marketing Activity to be expanded

The Pat Kenny Show will be running competitions and promotions to raise the profile of the Energia brand.

The energy supplier sees radio as a successful way to increase brand awareness, and has previously sponsored the RTE radio show, The Business with George Lee.

Business-to-business marketing activity is also being increased, and Energia have hired the Boys and Girls agency to run a consumer-focused advertising campaign in the coming months.

New developments at Energia

Energia are making changes themselves. Part of the Veridian Group, and based in Belfast, the company has been supplying gas and electricity to business customers for thirteen years with an estimated 65,000 business customers on board.

Energia will soon be entering the domestic gas and electricity market in Ireland. Gary Ryan says ‘it is now a natural extension to for us to look at the residential market.’
