September was a record breaking month for Energia as it led the way for Irish electricity and gas customers looking to switch suppliers.

The supplier gained 4,576 gas customers in September according to the most up-to-date data from the Commission for Energy Regulation (CER).

That figure marked the largest one-month gain made by any Irish supper to date in 2014 while 7,837 electricity customers also switched to Energia in the month.

Both home and business energy customers are being attracted to the energy supplier which now supplies more than 60,000 Irish residential accounts and 60,000 Irish businesses.

Energia only launched in the domestic market at the end of January this year but switching figures show that the company has consistently grown in the period since. Energia remain committed to being the cheapest dual fuel supplier in the market.

The average household switching to the suppliers SmartChoice Dual Fuel tariff will save up to €285 on its standard electricity and gas unit rates in the first year.

The firm is also offering new dual fuel customers who switch online, €50 cashback in addition to the current 16% discount on electricity 15% discount on gas. The €50 is redeemable on the first bill in 2015.

Geoff Codd, Head of Marketing at Energia, said that the firm was delighted that their “switch and save message” is getting through to Irish customers. “The commitment we made in February to always be competitive on price is resonating with householders and these record switcher numbers for September are proof of that,” he said. Mr Codd added that thousands of households had taken advantage of the dual fuel bundle – a “particularly great boost over the winter period when energy usage increases greatly”.
