Today, SSE Airtricity announced it is to introduce 2% electricity price decrease for all residential electricity customers.

The decrease will come into effect from 11 January 2016, and will come as welcome news to SSE Airtricity electricity customers.

This is the second electricity price cut announcement from SSE Airtricity in 2015, and follows an earlier 2% cut in April this year.

The price decrease applies to the supplier’s unit rates and standing charges and will save the average household €23 per year.

With this being the second electricity price cut announcement from SSE Airtricity in 2015, this means current electricity and dual fuel  customers will save almost €50 on average when the decrease comes into effect on 11 January 2016.

Commenting today, SSE Airtricity Managing Director Stephen Wheeler said:“I’m pleased that for the second time in 12 months, we’re delivering on our promise that if we can lower our electricity prices, we will. By announcing a further 2% cut from January to our household electricity prices, we are saving our customers almost €50 on average in their annual electricity costs compared with this time last year.

Mr Wheeler also further expressed his delight with SSE Airtricity commitment to give lower cost discounts to all electricity customers regardless of contract type, including Pay-As-You-Go customers and those who are most vulnerable to “help manage energy costs”.

The 2% electricity price reduction will apply to around 340,000 SSE Airtricity household electricity customers.

The announcement of today’s SSE Airtricity’s price decrease also comes on the same day that Electric Ireland announced a 2.5% gas decrease for its residential customers, effective 1 January 2016.
