For the second month in a row, Magnet Networks has been confirmed as the fastest broadband provider in Ireland by the Netflix ISP Speed Index.

Delivering a service of 2.2 Mbps, Magnet was 0.42 Mbps faster than its nearest rival UPC and also saw a speed increase of 0.08 Mbps on the previous month.

The Netflix ISP Speed Index is collated by the popular movie-streaming website and allows consumers to view which ISP delivers the best service on the Netflix platform.

Although the published data only refer to speeds achieved in streaming Netflix output, the results can be used as an indicator to reflect the ISP’s performance in other areas of the internet. As well as ranking ISPs in Ireland, Netflix also publishes speed data for the USA, the United Kingdom, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Norway and Mexico.

With over 33 million subscribers to its service worldwide, Netflix hopes that the index will provide consumers with valuable data with which they can compare the performance of competing ISPs.

Joris Evers, Director of Netflix Global Corporate Communications, said: “Topping the index is becoming a goal for many ISPs. We congratulate Magnet on delivering the best Netflix experience in Ireland for two consecutive months.”

The positive news for Magnet comes ahead of the launch of their new high-speed internet service next month. The Fatpipe Fibre service will provide a super-fast 70Mb internet connection to over half a million homes in Ireland this year and a further 700,000 once the roll-out is complete. Residential and business customers in Ireland can check the availability of the new Fatpipe Fibre service via the website.

Mark Kellett, CEO of says that topping the Netflix rankings for a second consecutive month validates both the quality of their current service and their investment in future upgrades. “Irish internet consumers are savvy and endorsements from respected independent sources like this have already seen us attract a lot of new customers who want the quality and real speeds that our network can deliver,” he said.
