The Horizon TV App and Horizon TV Online service could alter the way that a large percentage of Irish customers enjoy television programmes such as Love/Hate and The Late Late Show, as well as a host of the most popular drama and comedy programmes from the United States.

Irish terrestrial channels as well as the best of UK terrestrial television will be included among 45 channels that can be enjoyed across PCs, laptops, mobiles and tablets as an entirely free service for existing UPC customers. This range of formats gives customers the chance to catch their favourite shows even if they are constantly on the move.

Broadband breakthrough

It is also worth noting that the service will change the face of broadband coverage in Ireland on a grand scale. UPC broadband customers will receive free speed upgrades to ensure that approximately 300,000 customers can attain a minimum speed of 50Mbps.

There will be no upgrade fees or charges of any kind as part of this service, meaning that existing UPC customers will be able to surf online a great deal faster and more efficiently without having to worry about parting with any more money. Mark Coan, Sales & Marketing Director at UPC Ireland, was notably bullish about the nature of the new service and what it will mean for those lucky enough to benefit from it.

“Our market strategy is to constantly set new standards by always bringing our customers products that are way better than the competition using sheer power and speed of our fibre power network,” commented Coan.

“With these two announcements we are making good on that promise by further enhancing the Irish TV viewing and broadband speed experience for UPC customers to make it even further ahead of others in the market,” he added.

Interactive initiative

The Horizon TV app is currently available from the App Store, allowing customers to download the service onto their iPad or iPhone and enjoy their favourite shows at various times.

Indeed, the interactive nature of Horizon TV is one of the most appealing aspects of the whole facility. For example, users can find out what the most popular movies and television shows are, as well as being able to see what shows their friends and family are currently watching more than any others.

The bold new range of initiatives could be set to have a major impact on the way that customers watch their favourite shows. Its expected that the full Horizon TV facility will be available in Ireland later this year. With the summer just around the corner, the timing of the new service could be a particularly shrewd move.
