Viatel is bringing a high broadband bandwidth of up to 100Gbps to business and wholesale clients in Ireland.

Creating an infrastructure of around 8,500km of fibre-optic cable which will connect thirty-four European cities, this product will replace similar provision by Digiweb, which merged with Viatel in May 2013.

The merger has resulted in a fusion of the Data Centre services, ICT and Managed Services which were provided by Digiweb with the high bandwidth and premium infrastructure of the present brand.

The Group CEO appears delighted by the expansion into Ireland.

Colm Piercy, Digiweb Group CEO, said regarding the introduction of this bandwidth programme, “This is an exciting day for Viatel. Our continued global expansion is on-going and today’s launch in Ireland is a key milestone for us.

“Ireland is home to some of the world’s leading companies and we are looking forward to offering them a unique service distinguished by effective end-to-end solutions, pro-active care, and strong value. In addition, welcoming many of our former Digiweb enterprise customers to Viatel enables us offer a new suite of solutions and opportunities to them.

“We are a young, fast growing organisation, determined to meet our clients’ needs in the Irish telecommunications market better and faster than anyone else.”

The company already provides comprehensive broadband services to a number of large corporations on the continent, so the extension of this provision is an opportunity for Ireland to become part of an International Operation.

Offering cost-effective broadband provision and a range of related services, there is potential for Viatel to significantly improve broadband provision in Ireland by incorporation into its substantial pre-existing pan-European network.
