Virgin Media to add 120 jobs in Limerick and expand fibre broadband network in Mid-West
The jobs are in the area of customer care, as well as some back-office finance roles.
Last week, Virgin Media announced it is creating 120 new jobs in its National Customer Experience Centre at Roxboro, Limerick. This will bring staff numbers at the centre to 400.
But that’s not all, as - in a further boost to the local economy - Virgin Media is also expanding its superfast fibre broadband network for homes and businesses in the region.
120 new positions to be filled immediately
Virgin Media says is growing its Irish workforce in order to meet demand for its superfast broadband, TV, phone and mobile services.
The new positions are being filled immediately and will all be based in Virgin Media’s Customer Experience centre in Roxboro.
All of the jobs are full time, and they include customer care specialists, as well as a number of specialist back office finance roles.
10,000 more premises to be connected to Virgin Media’s superfast broadband network
In addition to the jobs announcement, Virgin Media has also confirmed they will expand their network footprint in the mid-west region.
When the upgrade is completed, they plan to connect 10,000 more homes and businesses to their superfast broadband network.
“Great news for Limerick”
Speaking about the announcement, Virgin Media’s CEO, Tony Hanway, said that it is great news for Limerick and will continue Virgin Media’s “proud history” of investment in the Mid-West region.
He noted that feedback from Virgin Media’s customers is that they love dealing with the Limerick-based team, so the company is “thrilled” to be growing the staff base there.
Digital services are a huge part of our daily lives and Virgin Media is playing a central role in shaping and supporting the digital transformation of Irish society.
“Over 834,000 homes and businesses connect to Virgin broadband speeds which are at least three times as fast as those available from other providers. It’s great to be growing our presence in Limerick both with these new jobs and the ongoing expansion of Ireland’s only truly high speed broadband network.”
Minister for Finance, Michael Noonan T.D. - who attended the announcement - said that it was a very welcome development for Limerick, adding: “Virgin Media has consistently been one of the biggest employers in Limerick and I commend them for this jobs decision and their continuing investments in the Mid-West.”
