Vodafone Ireland launch 4G services
So far, six major cities and 23 towns can benefit from quicker, more efficient 4G services
Vodafone Ireland has gone live with its 4th generation mobile broadband services as part of major infrastructure improvements across the country.
They become the second company to offer 4G services in Ireland following eircom’s entry into the market in September.
Customers will have access to 4G mobile broadband with a compatible handset and SIM, while plans are also in place to offer a Smartphone deal in time for Christmas.
Six cities including Dublin, Cork, Limerick, Galway, Waterford and Kilkenny have had access to 4G services since the launch on Monday 14 October.
Vodafone is currently one of Ireland’s leading communications provider, with 2.4 million customers across several platforms.
Sheila Kavanagh, Head of Mobile Networks at Vodafone Ireland said: “4G will be available to consumers and businesses across the largest geographical spread of the country to reach as many customers as possible.
“Our overall network investment programme, to make Ireland’s leading network even better for all customers, has begun.”
She added that enhancement works were carried out during the summer months to provide those in the South East the service, while works in the South West are ongoing.
Towns across the South of Ireland will also benefit from 4G services including Bagnelstown, Bunclody, Carlow, Carrigaline, Dungarvan, Dunmanway, Enniscorthy, Kenmare and Killarney.
Those in Killorglin, Lismore, Mallow, Middleton, Millstreet, Newmarket, New Ross, Rosslare Harbour, Rosslare Strand, Thomastown, Tralee and Wexford can also access Vodafone’s 4G services.
The K4008Z dongle is 4G mobile broadband-ready for those that require top quality services while on the move.
Currently, around 70% of Vodafone customers have a 3G phone with a relatively small proportion having 4G access.
Areas with voice coverage means customers can still benefit from the new services, while they can also enjoy top quality conversations with High Definition Voice.
Vodafone promises that the new 4G services will be up to ten times faster than those previously experienced on 3G, with devices on its network capable of reaching speeds of up to 75Mb.
