Virgin Media Horizon TV Tips
Horizon TV is a relatively new product offering from Virgin Media which was launched in Ireland in September 2013. With over 30,000 customers signing up in the space of four months since its unveiling, Horizon TV has proven to be vastly popular as viewers realise they can now add a whole host of new experiences to their living room.
Horizon TV aims to enhance your TV experience in a number of different ways. You can use the Horizon TV HD+ box to record up to 4 programmes at the same time while watching a fifth. Virgin Media provide 400Gb of recording space on the Horizon TV HD+ box, enough to store up to 200 standard definition movies.
Horizon TV also uses your viewing history to offer personalised suggestions on what to watch, including offerings from some of the 19 HD channels that come as standard.
Here is a list of handy tips to help you utilize Horizon TV to the best of its potential.
The remote control connects via radio frequency so there is no need to point directly at the TV. The remote can be paired to both Horizon TV HD+ box as well as your TV so you only need one remote for the entire Horizon TV experience. You can also turn your smart device into remote control with Virgin Media’s Horizon TV Remote App, which can be used for Horizon TV Online.
Connect devices to Horizon TV HD+ box
It is possible to connect connect PC’s, Macs, smartphones and tablets to your Horizon TV HD+ box so you can transform your devices into TV screens. This means you can watch your favourite shows from anywhere in the house. It is generally better to connect via wired connection as WiFi speeds can vary and which may cause interference.
If this is not possible you can optimise your wireless connection in a few different ways. Positioning your Horizon box high up and not placing obstructions around horizon TV box helps the signal to travel farther and more evenly. It also helps to have the wireless router in the same room as your Horizon TV box as walls or other dense obstacles weaken the signal.
Pin and parental controls
Not all movies are suitable for younger children, so using the parental controls and age limit options, you can restrict your child’s access to certain channels. You can also manage your children’s viewing access by setting a purchase PIN code for renting movies On Demand.
The Horizon TV HD+ box also contains Connected Apps which allows you to enhance your viewing experience by providing access to a specially selected group of apps. There are 27 of these apps, including WikiTivia, which allows you to learn about what you are watching, and Facebook and Twitter so that you can take part in social discussion with live on-screen feeds.
You can also watch YouTube clips that relate to the programme or movie that you are watching there and then. Additionally, customers can use news apps to keep up to date with what is going on the world with The Journal.ie and The Irish Times app.
