Sky Sports vs Setanta Sports: which is best for you?

When it comes to watching sport, every fan wants the best sports coverage available and that means finding the best sports package on the market.

Sky Sports has forged a reputation for delivering the best sporting action from across the globe, but Setanta Sports offers viewers an alternative choice when it comes to getting their fix of sporting action.

Both are broadcasters in Ireland and offer live coverage of the best sporting events on the planet, from top flight, international football and rugby, to a whole host of other minority sports.

When it comes to picking between the two sports broadcasters, what exactly should you consider? Here, we give you an idea of what to think about.

What do you get with Setanta Sports?

Back in 2013 Setanta Sports and BT formed an exciting new partnership, which enhanced Setanta Sports live sports coverage while also boosting the appeal of its package offering.

Subscribers to Setanta Sports in Ireland can access five channels – Setanta Ireland and Setanta Sports 1, as well as BT Sport 1, BT Sport 2 and ESPN, with the BT and ESPN channels also available in HD.

As a result, it means customers can watch Barclays Premier League football and action from the Champions League, as well as football from many of the top leagues in Europe.

There’s also access to coverage of Aviva Premiership Rugby, UFC, Formula 1 and a whole host of other sporting events.

What do you get with Sky Sports?

Sky Sports offers a wide range of coverage, with up to six multi-sport channels, including specialist cover via Sky Sports F1 and exclusive live coverage.

There is also HD and 3D coverage available for those wanting an enhanced viewing experience, although these do come at an additional cost.

Football fans can enjoy action from the Premier League, Football League, La Liga and the Champions League, as well as coverage of nearly all major sporting events.

Coverage of global tennis and golf tournaments and a number of more niche sports is also part of the package.

Customers can also watch Sky Sports live while on the go with Sky Go for no extra cost.

Sky Sports and Setanta Sports prices

The main difference between Sky Sports and Setanta Sports is the price. While Sky Sports offers one extra channel more than Setanta Sports, it is also a little more expensive.

Setanta sports packages are available from the main TV providers such as Virgin Media, eir and Sky via an annual pass or monthly subscription.

A basic Sky Sports package has a significantly larger portfolio of sporting events than Setanta, meaning the coverage is more extensive, but this is also reflected in the price.
