Switcher.ie Awards 2018: Virgin Media and Tesco Mobile scoop night's top prizes

eir, Sky, Three and Vodafone also went home with awards.

Last night, the fifth annual Switcher.ie Awards took place in Dublin’s Marker Hotel.

On the night, Virgin Media took home the overall Best Broadband Provider award, while Tesco Mobile scooped the award for Best Mobile Phone Operator.

In total, Virgin Media won six of the broadband awards, Sky scooped four, Vodafone won three and eir nabbed two. In terms of mobiles, Tesco Mobile won three awards in total, as did Vodafone. Three won one award at the event.

The Awards are the only event of their kind in Ireland, with independent consumer research, and over 90,000 customer ratings and speed tests determining winners across the vast majority of categories. An independent judging panel, consisting of industry experts, decided the results in the remainder.

An overview of the telecoms market

Every year, Switcher.ie hosts these awards to highlight the best broadband providers and products in the Irish market. For the first time this year, mobiles were also added into the mix, so the Awards give a view of the whole telecoms market.

This means that the results from the awards can help to give you a steer in terms of what kind of experience you can expect from particular providers, across areas like technical support, customer service and TV content.

You can also use Switcher.ie’s free broadband and TV comparison tool and SIM-only mobile comparison to easily compare plans.

Helping consumers to choose the company and service that’s right for them

Speaking about the Awards, Switcher.ie’s Managing Director, Eoin Clarke, said they were all about recognising the great things broadband, TV and mobile providers do, while also “helping consumers to choose the company and service that’s right for them.”

He added: “Given the competition across the telecoms market these days, access to independent and impartial consumer feedback is more important than ever. Coupled with our free broadband and TV comparison tool and SIM-only mobile comparison, these Awards help to provide consumers with this independent feedback, by giving telecoms customers a real say in determining the winners.”

Mr. Clarke also congratulated all of the providers who took home awards, saying: “All of our award winners deserve a huge congratulations, with special mentions of course to Virgin Media and Tesco Mobile who were named Best Overall Providers on the night.”
