eir mobile FAQs
Can I keep my mobile number?
Yes, this is called ‘porting’ your number and makes changing network a much smoother process.
Keeping your number means you won’t have to tell all your friends and family your new number or risk losing contact with anyone.
Your new network will guide you through the steps you need to take to port your mobile number
Can I upgrade to a handset plan from a SIM-only plan?
If you sign up to an eir mobile 30-day SIM-only deal, you will be able to upgrade to a handset plan as you’re not tied into a long contract.
How does EU roaming work with eir mobile?
You can roam away with eir mobile. Enjoy calls, texts and a chunk of data from your plan while travelling in the EU. Find out more at www.eir.ie/roaming.
How long will it take for my SIM to arrive from eir mobile?
You should receive your SIM within 3-5 working days from when you signed up. If you want to track your order, you can do so here using the tracking number in your order confirmation email.
If you don’t get your order within 3-5 working days, you should contact eir mobile directly on 1901.
Is eir's mobile data truly unlimited?
No, it’s subject to their fair usage policy which outlines what they consider to be reasonable use.
For example, if you exceeded 120GB data in a 28 day period that could adversely affect other users, they may limit the data speed. You would still be able to access social media sites but streaming services would be slower.
What is a SIM-only plan?
A SIM-only plan allows you to just pay for data, calls and texts. When you sign up you’ll get a SIM card with an allocation of data, texts and minutes, but the deal won’t include a phone.
SIM-only plans are generally cheaper and will save you money if you already have a phone you are happy with.
What are the advantages of SIM-only deals?
If you’ve paid off your phone and are still happy with your handset, you’ll save money by switching to a SIM-only deal. The advantages of switching to a SIM-only deal include:
- You can keep your existing phone
- SIM-only plans are cheaper
- It’s flexible, with no contract tie-ins
- It’s a good way to check how a new network performs without locking into a 2-year deal
Sometimes it’s cheaper to buy your phone outright and then go for a SIM-only deal, especially if you don’t mind buying a refurbished phone.
What is 4G calling?
4G calling which is also known as Voice over Long Term Evolution (VoLTE), lets you make calls while being connected to the 4G network.
Some devices will automatically switch to 4G calling when WiFi calling is unavailable, but some handsets need the feature to be enabled and the transition may not be seamless.
Find out more about which handsets are compatible and which require setting up, on the eir website.
