How do I get Apple Intelligence on my iPhone 16?
Apple Intelligence (AI) will become available with iOS 18.1 in October if your device language and Siri language are set to a supported language.
However, Apple Intelligence will not work if you are in the EU and if your Apple ID Country/Region is also in the EU. If you are travelling outside of the EU, Apple Intelligence will work when your device language and Siri language are set to a supported language. This is currently due to EU Digital Markets Act regulations.
If you are outside of the EU to request activation of Apple Intelligence after you update to iOS 18.1
- go to Settings
- tap Apple Intelligence & Siri
- then tap Join the Apple Intelligence Waitlist
- Apple Intelligence should be available for activation within a few hours of joining the waitlist, though waiting times may vary.

How do I put my iPhone in emergency SOS mode?
With Phone 14, 15 and 16 models, you can use Emergency SOS via satellite to text emergency services when you’re out of cellular and Wi-Fi coverage.
Here’s what to do:
- Press and hold the side button on the volume button until the Emergency SOS slider appears.
- Drag the Emergency Call slider to call emergency services. An alert sounds if you continue holding the side button and volume button instead of dragging the slider.
