Bord Gáis Energy introduce new range of discounted gas and dual fuel offers

New and existing Bord Gáis Energy customers can now get up to 10% off the suppliers standard gas and electricity unit rates

Bord Gais Energy has launched its first discounted gas and dual fuel offers following its full deregulation from the domestic gas market at the beginning of July. That move allowed the energy supplier to set its own gas prices for the first time, with a number of new discount offers available for new and existing customers.

A dual fuel offer will be available which offers 10% off Bord Gáis Energy’s standard gas unit rate and 10% off their standard electricity unit rate. The deal will cost an average household €2,003 per year, representing a saving of around €202 on the firms standard rates. Contracts will be available on either a one or two-year basis, with both options having a following-on discount of 5% in year two and subsequent years.

More savings with Tesco Clubcard

The company has teamed up with Tesco in an effort to maximise household savings for consumers on their grocery and energy bills.

Tesco Clubcard points will also be available from Bord Gáis Energy as part of a special Clubcard offer that can be redeemed against a customer’s first energy bill. These Tesco Clubcard points are worth €40 to customers signing a one-year contract and €80 for those who agree a two-year deal. As a result, it means new and existing Bord Gáis Energy customers could stand to save up to €282 a year as a result of the 10% dual fuel discount and by using the Tesco Clubcard deal.

Who’s the cheapest gas and electricity supplier on average?

Here is the table of the cheapest gas and electricity tariffs available based on the national average consumption. According to the Energy Regulator (CER), the average Irish household uses 13,800 kW/h of gas and 5,300 kW/h of electricity per year. Additional savings after year one

One of the more unique aspects of the new gas and dual fuel discounts is the fact that Bord Gáis Energy is offering a continued discount in year 2 and beyond. Its ongoing discount of 5% on dual fuel and gas only tariffs will help customers to save more in the long run once the initial year one discount period ends.

Although customers will no longer receive the maximum discount available in year one, they will still receive a lower discount rate at 5% and not the full cost of Bord Gáis Energy’s standard gas and electricity unit rates in the second year. Currently no other energy supplier in Ireland offer discounted tariffs beyond the first 12 months of the customer’s contract. To avail of the discounts customers will need to sign-up for level-pay direct debit and paperless billing.

Level Pay is a monthly payment scheme unique to Bord Gáis Energy, where customers pay the same amount for their energy on a monthly basis via a direct debit payment.
