The dual fuel bundle is worth over €800

Smart technology is becoming more and more popular, with people using virtual assistants and smart devices daily to manage tasks like setting alarms and timing the lights and heat to come on at home, among other things.

If you haven’t yet gotten on board with smart technology for whatever reason, SSE Airtricity’s new dual fuel and electricity tariffs may interest you - not only will you get a 10% discount on your dual fuel or electricity rates, you’ll also get:

  • a free climote;
  • a free Amazon Echo; and
  • either a free Amazon Echo Dot or Amazon Echo Spot, depending on whether you opt for the dual fuel or electricity bundle.

1 Year Dual Fuel Smart Home Bundle

Fuel type Plan Name Price
Dual Fuel 1 Year Dual Fuel Smart Home Bundle (Direct Debit & eBill) €1,731.92 Compare now

This dual fuel bundle can save you over €91.03 on your gas and electricity over the course of a year, when compared to typical standard tariffs. While this isn’t the biggest saving available on the energy market at the moment, the addition of the smart home devices will save you a lot more.

According to SSE Airtricity, when you combine the gas and electiricty cost saving with the value of the Climote, Amazon Echo and Amazon Echo Spot, the dual fuel bundle is worth over €800.

1 Year Electricity Smart Home Bundle

Fuel type Plan Name Price
Electricity 1 Year Electricity Smart Home Bundle (Direct Debit & eBill) €972.07 Compare now

If you don’t have gas at home, you could opt for this electricity-only tariff. When compared to typical standard tariffs, it could save you €33.19 on your electricity over the year.

Again, this isn’t the biggest electricity saving available on the market at the moment, but SSE Airtricity say that when you combine the cost saving with the value of the Climote, Amazon Echo and Amazon Echo Dot, the bundle is worth over €650.

What are the benefits of the Climote and Amazon Echo?

climote

The climote is a smart thermostat, which allows you to schedule when you want your heating to come on and off, and turn on and off the heating remotely - which means you never need to come home to a cold house again.

As well as your heating, the climote also allows you to manage your hot water, via an app, online and text services, as well as directly on the wall where it’s set up.

Getting the climote all set up will only take around 30 minutes - and the installer will give you a demonstration on how to programme the climote and use it.

One of the unique elements of the climote is the fact that, on top of the usual app and online services, you can send text message commands. This could work well for older customers who may not have or want a smartphone.

The climote usually costs €399 including installation, but it comes free with both of the Smart Home bundles mentioned above.

Amazon Echo

The Amazon Echo connects to Alexa - a cloud-based, voice-activated virtual assistant - which you can use to play music, set alarms, check the weather, manage to-do and shopping lists, and control compatible home devices, like smart lightbulbs.

The speaker in the Amazon Echo has Dolby processing, that fills the room with immersive, 360° omnidirectional audio. And, with seven microphones, beam-forming technology and noise cancellation, Echo can hear you from any direction - even while music is playing.

Along with the Echo, you’ll also get the Echo Dot or Echo Spot, depending on which bundle you sign up to.

The Echo Spot is a similar device to the Echo, however it has a video screen also - meaning it functions as a smart alarm clock, and allows you to carry out video calls.

Meanwhile, the Echo Dot has the same functionality as the Echo, but it’s much smaller in size.

Having two Echo devices means you can avail of ‘multi-room music’, which means you can play music on Echo devices in different rooms through Amazon Music, TuneIn and Spotify.

You can also call or message anyone hands-free who also has an Echo device or the Alexa App, and quickly connect to other Echo devices in your home using just your voice.

Are there any terms and conditions to these tariffs?

In general, the terms and conditions on energy tariffs tend to be quite similar, but there are a few additional ones to consider when signing up to one of these Smart Home Bundles:

  • These bundles are available to new SSE Airtricity customers.
  • These offers are available on a 1-year contract. If you leave your contract after the 14-day cooling-off period, but before the end of the 1-year term, a termination charge of €75 per fuel will be applied to your account - so this means €150 if you opt for the dual fuel tariff.
  • The deals apply to anyone signing up to these tariffs who agrees to receive bills online and pays by Direct Debit - if you don’t pay by Direct Debit, or if you cancel your Direct Debit, a €300 deposit will be applied to your account.
  • After the initial 12-month period is up, your account will be switched to the standard SSE Airtricity rates applicable at the time. At that stage, you’ll still be able to access the Climote Heating Control device directly but you will be liable to pay standard subscription costs to climote - these amount to €19 per year.

How do I claim my free devices?

Once you sign up, you’ll be emailed instructions of how to redeem the Amazon Echo and Echo Dot/Spot within 30 days, provided you continue to be supplied by SSE Airtricity and have completed your 14-day cooling-off period. You must then claim your devices within 3 months of the date on which you signed up to SSE Airtricity.

It’s worth noting that Amazon requires you to create a free Amazon account to use the Echo products. You’ll also need a wireless broadband router and good Wi-Fi coverage across your home, as well as a smartphone, tablet, PC or laptop with Android or Apple iOS.

“Even when you’re rushing out the door, you can just ask Alexa to turn the heating off and she’ll take care of the rest… no more worrying about the heating being left on!”

Speaking about the latest offer, Victoria Groom, Head of Marketing & Products at SSE Airtricity, said: “At SSE Airtricity we believe small changes can make a big difference towards a greener environment. That’s why we’re delighted to be the first energy provider to partner with Amazon and Climote to help turn Irish households into connected homes.”
