UPC and Sky stole the show at the Switcher Broadband Awards 2015; claiming victory in seven of the ten award categories.

UPC claimed the prestigious title of Best Broadband Provider as well as Best Customer Rated Home Broadband and Fastest Home Broadband.

It marks the second year running that UPC claimed the Best Broadband Provider title, with customers praising the firm’s superfast speeds, service and reliability.

The provider was also the Most Recommended Broadband winner, showcasing its popularity among broadband users.

Commenting on the company’s success on the night, Magnus Ternsjo, CEO of UPC Ireland said, “It is fantastic to know that the winners were voted by both consumers, industry experts and giving real credibility to us as a trusted company and valued service provider”.

“I would especially like to say thank you to all our valued customers who are using our services and also UPC’s dedicated staff who have created another award winning year for UPC and its customers” he added.

Sky also scoop success

The awards, now in their second year, saw Sky follow UPC’s successes by receiving accolades for Best Technical Support and Best Customer Service.

Sky was also voted as Best TV Provider by the panel of judges, seeing off competition from eircom and UPC in the process.

Vodafone and eircom shared the awards from the remaining categories with the latter voted Best for Broadband Innovation.

The awards for Best Customer Benefits and Best Value Home Broadband were scooped by Vodafone at the event which took place at The Marker Hotel in Dublin.

Deciding the awards

The awards use a range of methods to decide which providers come out on top and revealed what Irish customers really think of the services that are available to them.

Designed to measures speed and reliability, as well as top levels of customer service and support, the awards include the use of speed test data and consumer research.

A national survey and 30,000 customer ratings were included when deciding which providers should claim the top awards while an independent expert panel of judges who voted on some awards was chosen by Managing Director of Switcher, Eoin Clarke.

This panel included Stephen Conmy, writer and editor at Digital Times, Niall Kitson, editor of TechCentral.ie, Ray Walsh of TV Now and Silicon Republic’s award-winning writer John Kennedy.

All four individuals have vast knowledge of the technology market in Ireland and decided the winner of the Broadband Innovation Award; recognising eircom’s continued investment in their fibre network in the last year.
