Three energy price increases today: PrePayPower latest to announce hike

The electricity increase will come into effect from 1 December

The price increase announcements are coming in thick and fast today - PrePayPower has just announced its prices will go up for electricity customers from 1 December. This follows earlier announcements from Flogas and Pinergy.

PrePayPower’s increase will amount to €0.09 per day, or €32.85 per year for the average electricity customer. Like other suppliers, PrePayPower says the increase is driven by increasing wholesale electricity costs and increased regulated charges for the distribution of power.

Seven price increases so far

In total, seven energy suppliers in Ireland have now introduced price increases. Bord Gáis Energy gas and electricity prices, and SSE Airtricity electricity prices are all rising from today.

Meanwhile Energia is increasing electricity prices from 1 December, and Electric Ireland has price increases on the way from 1 February next year.

Switching to a cheaper deal is quick and easy

If you’re with PrePayPower because you prefer to have a pay-as-you-go electricity plan, you should take a look at the other prepay suppliers in the market to see if you could get a better deal by switching.

However, if you’re open to other types of plans, it’s likely you will save a lot more - the average dual fuel customer can save up to €362 by switching from standard rates to the cheapest deals on the market.
