What packages can you get with Virgin Media?

Virgin Media broadband and phone plans

If you don’t need a TV package, one of Virgin Media’s broadband and phone plans could be a good option for you.

You’ll also need to decide whether you’re happy with unlimited anytime calls to Irish landlines and mobiles, or you also need unlimited minutes to 22 international destinations, including the USA and Canada.

Virgin Media TV-only plans

If you don’t want to go with Virgin Media broadband, but are interested in a TV-package, Virgin Media has TV-only plans available.

There are two main packages - Virgin Mix TV, which comes with 66 channels, and Virgin Full House TV, which has 114. Both packages come with the ability to:

  • Pause, rewind, record and store all your favourite shows
  • Record 4 shows, while watching a 5th
  • Enjoy hundreds of movies and TV shows
  • Watch Netflix directly through the TV box

You can also choose to add on Sky Sports or Sky Cinema if you’d like, for an additional monthly cost.

Another feature available to you is a Red House visit, where a technician from Virgin Media can visit your home to:

  • Fine-tune the set-up of your broadband and TV
  • Connect all devices
  • Upgrade equipment

If you request a Red House Experience there will be a charge of €50.

Why choose Virgin Media?

There are many reasons why a Virgin Media plan might suit you:

  • It picked up the Most Popular Broadband Provider award at the 2020 Switcher.ie Awards
  • Virgin Media operates its own network, so you’ll get full support if any network issues arise
  • It’s a quad-play provider, meaning you can bundle your broadband, TV, phone and mobile plans if you’d like

Virgin Media things to be aware of

The main disadvantage of Virgin Media is that it’s simply not as widely available as broadband from other providers who operate on the open eir network.

You can check if Virgin Media plans are available in your area using our comparison tool.

You should fully review your options before you sign up to any Virgin Media plan. Most Virgin Media packages have 12-month contracts, so make sure you check any discount period - and the price after the discount ends - before signing up.

Are there any Virgin Media upgrade deals for existing customers?

If you’re an existing Virgin Media customer, you can upgrade your plan, add on different elements - such as broadband or TV - and include extra channels, like Sky Cinema and Sky Sports, with no hassle. You’ll also usually get discounts on Virgin Media’s SIM-only plans.

Contact Virgin Media directly to discuss all the options available to you.

Virgin Media broadband vs eir vs Sky vs Vodafone

If you’re not sure which broadband provider to go for, Virgin Media owns its own network, so you’ll get full support if any network issues arise.

Virgin Media’s plans also have higher average speeds than the majority of plans from eir, Sky and Vodafone, who operate most of their plans off the open eir wholesale network.

How to switch to Virgin Media Broadband

Switching to a Virgin Media plan is quick and easy. All you need to do is choose which plan you’re interested in and fill in a few details, including your address and bank details.

Virgin Media will also look for your Universal Account Number (UAN), which is an eight digit number used by telecom providers to identify phone lines.

Make sure you contact your current provider to ensure you’re free to switch, and give them the required notice so that you’re not charged after you’ve switched.

You’ll be able to arrange a cut-off date with them for service and then you can confirm an installation date with Virgin Media so you experience as little downtime as possible.

Once the switch happens, you can then cancel any Direct Debits with your current provider.
