How does it work?

Here’s what you need to do to sign up:

  1. Order a SIM and within 5-7 days you’ll get your free SIM card and login details
  2. Activate it via the website or My48 app for your free 1GB
  3. Buy a membership and pay the activation fee if you want to stay with 48

When you sign up with 48, you can keep your existing mobile number or select a new one. There’s a simple step by step guide to show you how to do this once you have signed up.

How do you top up with 48?

You’ll need to log in to My48 and select the membership of your choice. For new customers, auto-renew is on by default, but you can turn this off in My Profile under Payment Details. You can also choose to stack memberships when you buy your membership.

Is 5G available on 48?

Yes, 5G is available on the €12.99 plan.

You’ll need a 5G device, the €12.99 5G plan, and 5G coverage in your area. 4G is included with all other 48 plans.

What is 48's coverage like?

48 uses Three, one of Ireland’s leading mobile networks.Three has 99% 4G coverage nationwide and 90% 5G population coverage.

Does 48 have a fair usage policy?

No. From 30th August 2024, 48 removed the 200GB monthly Fair Usage Policy (FUP) limit on the €12.99 Plan. Customers on the €12.99 Plan will have unlimited data for data usage in the Republic of Ireland.

This allows customers the freedom to game, stream and browse without worrying about crossing the 200GB data threshold.

Does my phone need to be unlocked?

Yes, to join a SIM-only plan you will need to unlock your phone. You may need to contact your current mobile phone provider, but you may like to read our guide about unlocking your phone first.
