Earlier today, eir announced that it is renaming Setanta sports to eir Sport. As part of the rebrand, eir is also making all eir Sport channels, along with BT Sports, free for its broadband customers.

If you’re a footie fan, this could leave you with a big choice to make about which provider will give you the best coverage of your favourite team as we come into the new season.

The news comes after eir confirmed its purchase of the popular sports channel in April and will no doubt put pressure on rivals Sky ahead of the upcoming football season.

Fans of Setanta will be pleased to see that eir Sport will continue to provide the same high-quality content, including Barclays Premier League games, every UEFA Champions League game, exclusive Europa League games, and the FA Cup.

And even if you’re not into football, you’re sure to find something to your liking on eir  or BT Sport, as they’ll also have European Rugby Champions Cup games, all Formula 1 races, live Allianz Leagues GAA games and The Masters. eir Sport has also secured all the Republic of Ireland rights to the 2019 Rugby World Cup.

If you’re an eir broadband customer, you’ll be able to access the channels via a new eir Sport app, while eir Vision customers can access them through the eir Vision box. If you have eir broadband and Sky TV, you can access the channels through your Sky TV box.

eir broadband customers that currently pay for a sports pack will no longer be charged for eir Sports or BT Sports. This content will also be available at no extra cost for anyone currently on a multi-room package.

If you’re shopping around for a new broadband or TV deal, you should consider all of your options and requirements before signing up. Things to consider include:

  • What broadband speed you require;
  • Which channels are important to you;
  • How much you’re willing to pay; and
  • Whether a bundle offers better value.

If you’re one of the many people who now prefer to stream content on tablets, laptops and mobile phones, broadband speed and data allowance are also important factors to consider.
