About the Meter Point Reference Number (MPRN)

Heard of the MPRN but not sure what it is? Here’s all the information you need on: how to find your MPRN, what it’s for, and why you need it.

What is the MPRN in Ireland?

MPRN or Meter Point Reference Number, is an eleven digit unique identifying number for the electricity meter at your property.

How to find your MPRN

Although the MPRN is the meter’s identifying number, you won’t find it on the meter itself.

You can normally find it on the top right corner of your electricity bill.

What if you don’t have a bill to check?

If you don’t have a previous bill you can look at, you can:

  • Ask the landlord or previous occupiers for the MPRN; or
  • Contact ESB Networks on 1850 372 757 to verify your MPRN

What you need your MPRN for

If you want to switch electricity supplier, you’ll be asked for your MPRN.

The MPRN verifies your meter and its location to your existing and new supplier, helping the switch to run smoothly.
