COVID-19 Update - Despite the current coronavirus restrictions you can still switch your energy supplier as normal.

About the Meter Point Reference Number (MPRN)

If you’ve been thinking of switching electricity provider, you may have heard about the MPRN - we’ve got all the info you need on what it is and how to find it.

What is the MPRN?

Your MPRN is the Meter Point Reference Number, which is a unique identifying number for the electricity meter at your property. It is eleven digits long.

Where is the MPRN located? How do I find my MPRN?

Although the MPRN is the meter’s identifying number, it is not found on the meter itself. You can normally find it on the top right corner of your electricity bill.

If you don’t have a previous bill:

  • ask the landlord or previous occupiers for the number; or
  • contact ESB Networks on 1850 372 757 to verify your MPRN.

Why do I need to know my MPRN?

You will need the MPRN in order to complete an electricity switch.

The MPRN allows both your old and new supplier to identify the meter in your home and ensure the switch is completed correctly.
