The three main Irish network operators are eir Meteor, Three and Vodafone - some of their best deals are outlined in the table above.

All of the other operators, including iD, Lycamobile, Meteor, Tesco Mobile, and Virgin Mobile, use one of these main networks to provide their customers with phone service.

Which network has the best mobile coverage?

The mobile coverage you get will depend on your network and where you’re using your phone - as well as your device itself.

In 2016, Rootmetrics - an independent mobile analytics firm - carried out analysis of over 32,000 mobile tests in Cork, Dublin and Limerick. The company tested mobile networks in each area for things that impact people’s everyday mobile experience: Overall Performance, Network Reliability, Network Speed, Data, Call, and Text.

Overall, the report found that eir Meteor and Vodafone came out top, with eir Meteor winning out on Overall Performance in Limerick, Vodafone taking Dublin, and the two providers tying in Cork.

Vodafone took all of the awards in Dublin, meaning that for reliability, network speed, data, calls and texts, customers in the capital are doing well.

eir Mobile coverage

eir says its mobile network has 95% 4G coverage nationwide and 99% population coverage. According to Rootmetics, eir Meteor performs well in terms of speeds in Cork, Dublin and Limerick.

iD mobile coverage

iD also uses Three’s network, so if you have good reception from Three, iD Mobile will work well for you, too. Three says it has 96% population coverage, so almost the whole country is covered.

Lycamobile coverage

When Lycamobile set up in Ireland, it used the O2 network, which is now merged with Three, meaning it can also offer 96% population coverage.

Meteor mobile coverage

As with eir Mobile, Meteor says it has 95% 4G coverage nationwide and 99% population coverage.

Tesco Mobile coverage

Tesco Mobile also operates off the Three network, so we’re looking at 96% population coverage again. It’s worth noting that Tesco is the biggest of the phone providers, outside of the ones who own their own networks.

Three mobile coverage

Three says it has 96% population coverage, so almost the whole country is covered by Three.

Virgin mobile coverage

As with many of the other providers, Virgin Mobile is using the Three network, so if you get good coverage with Three, you’ll be looking at very similar service from Virgin Mobile.

Vodafone mobile coverage

Vodafone says that it has 90% coverage in each county in Ireland. Analysis by Rootmetrics in 2016 showed Vodafone to be the best network in Dublin for reliability, network speed, data, calls and texts.
