Netflix is coming to Sky Q in November, along with new 'Ultimate on Demand' subscription pack
This will be available to new and existing Sky customers
Sky has just announced that it is adding Netflix to Sky Q from November, along with a new Sky subscription pack.
Sky TV’s ‘Ultimate On Demand’ pack - Netflix and Sky Box Sets
The new ‘Ultimate On Demand’ pack will be Ireland’s biggest on-demand service, bringing together Sky Box Sets and Netflix through one subscription for the first time.
The pack, which is launching in November, will cost €16 per month for new and existing Sky customers (alongside their Sky Q subscription), on a 31-day rolling contract.
This will give customers access to 400 UK and US series via Sky Box Sets, as well as the full range of Netflix shows and movies.
Customers with a regular Sky Q Entertainment subscription will get Netflix’s standard plan (two streams in HD) and Sky Box Sets in HD, while those with Sky Q Multiscreen will get Netflix’s Premium plan (four streams and UHD).
At the moment, the Sky Box Sets and HD add-on costs €17 per month, so the new Ultimate On Demand pack represents a significant saving, when you consider that includes your monthly Netflix subscription (usually €10.99) as well as the Sky Box Sets.
Anyone who signs up will be able to access Sky Box Sets and Netflix content side-by-side under one handy ‘On Demand’ menu.
What if I want to access Netflix without the ‘Ultimate On Demand’ pack?
If you’re happy with your current Netflix subscription and don’t want access to the new pack, don’t worry, you’ll still be able to access Netflix through Sky Q.
Simply go to the ‘Apps’ menu and you will be able to sign into your account from there and watch via your TV.
I’m a Sky + customer - can I access Netflix?
This Netflix integration is not going to be rolled out to Sky + in November, so Sky has advised that Sky + customers will need to upgrade to Sky Q to be able to access Netflix through their set top box.
According to Sky’s website, a set-up cost of €149 applies to customers when purchasing a Sky Q 1TB box (discounted to €25 for existing Sky TV customers upgrading to Sky Q Multiscreen, or €25 for existing Sky Multiscreen customers upgrading to Sky Q Multiscreen). Meanwhile, a set up cost of €179 applies to customers when purchasing a Sky Q 2TB box (discounted to €60 for existing Sky TV customers upgrading to Sky Q Multiscreen).
It’s worth noting that you’ll need to have a 2TB Sky Q box and a Sky Q Multiscreen subscription in order to access UHD content.
“The number one destination for TV fans”
Speaking about this latest integration, Sky UK and Ireland’s CEO, Stephen van Rooyen, said: “We want Sky Q to be the number one destination for TV fans. Partnering with Netflix means we will have all the best TV in one great value pack, making it even easier to watch all of your favourite shows.”
Meanwhile, Netflix’s Director of Business Development for the UK and Ireland, Chris Whiteley, said that innovation is at the core of Netflix, and the company is delighted to partner with Sky to “offer fans a new and exciting way to access the best of entertainment from around the world”.
Even more new additions to Sky Q
On top of the Netflix partnership, there are also loads of new features and additions that are already available on - or are coming soon to - Sky Q, including:
- Integrated billing with Spotify, and some great introductory offers for Sky customers who are new to Spotify Premium.
- A ‘Because You’ve Watched’ section in the menu for Sky Cinema and the Sky Store (with plans to roll out to the rest of Sky Q), so you can get recommendations based on your viewing preferences.
- Personalised genres within Sky Cinema and the Sky Store - so if you watch a lot of horror, for example, this will now appear as a standalone genre in your menu.
- Kids Mode (launching in the new year), which will take all of the popular features of the Sky Kids App - like parental controls - to your TV.
- Additional voice control features, such as the ability to launch the weather app, get the latest news, and launch Netflix with a quick voice command.
Remember, all new Sky customers get Sky Q included as standard. Sky regularly runs discounts on its TV-only and broadband, TV and phone bundles, so if you’re interested in switching, you could make a significant saving.
