Sky reveal pricing for next generation TV service Sky Q

New TV & home entertainment system to launch on 9 February with prices starting from €55 per month

Sky has revealed that the Sky Q home entertainment system will be available for purchase from 9 February 2016, with the monthly cost for the service starting at €55 per month for new and existing customers.

Home installations of the new set top box will start at the end of February. It will include a range of Smart features, including the concept of Fluid Viewing which will allow viewers to switch programming seamlessly between devices, both in and out of the home.

Flexible TV streaming and viewing

Ann-Marie MacKay, Director of Product and Customer Growth, Sky Ireland, said: “We wanted to completely re-imagine TV, making it flexible and seamless across the screens in our lives.”

The fluid viewing concept relies on a wireless connection to link a range of advanced Sky Q products including Sky Q, Sky Q Silver and the Sky Q app.

The Sky Q bundle

The launch will include two Sky Q bundles, the first of which is the Sky Q bundle, providing fluid viewing for customers with a range of entertainment TV content.

More than 60 high definition channels and over 300 Sky Box Sets are included as standard for a cost of €55 per month.

The available smart features enable viewers to record three shows and watch a fourth live, while switching between rooms and devices to watch and stream TV programmes with the Sky Q app.

Shows can also be recorded to tablet devices to watch offline and customers can use a new Sky Q touch Bluetooth remote to flick between programming.

Viewers can stream music wirelessly via either Bluetooth or Apple’s AirPlay, while also browsing Facebook photos on your TV, while an interactive sidebar can provider updates from Sky News and Sky Sports without interrupting their main screen experience.

An online video section provides access to a range of streaming options from YouTube and Vevo, alongside a new service featuring videos from GQ, Red Bull Media House, Funny Or Die and Vogue.

The Sky Q Silver Bundle

The Sky Q Silver Bundle is available for €67 a month for new customers and includes everything included in the Sky Q Bundle, as well as other additional features such as an ability to view content on an extra tablet device.

It will be possible to watch different programmes at the same time on up to five screens around the home with Sky Q while recording four other channels.

This bundle includes the 2TB Sky Q Silver Box which is ultra-high definition ready in preparation for the launch of an Ultra High Definition service later in 2016.

The Sky Q Silver Box has enough recording space for 350 hours of TV content, more than double what is available with the regular Sky Q Bundle.

Current Sky Broadband, Sky Movies or Sky Sports subscrbers upgrading to a Sky Q bundle will pay a discounted once-off installation cost of €99 for the Sky Q box or €149 for the Sky Q Silver box.
