The HUB Controller - what you need to know

The latest Smart Thermostat to launch in Ireland is called the HUB Controller.

Smart thermostats are big news at the moment, with saving money on energy being important to consumers.

So, here are all of the details about the HUB Controller, which launched at October’s Ideal Home Show in Dublin.

What is the HUB Controller?

The HUB Controller is a smart thermostat which replaces the mechanical thermostat in your home.

It has a touchscreen and is about 5 inches wide and 3.5 inches tall, so won’t take up too much space on your wall.

How does the HUB Controller work?

Much like other smart thermostats, the HUB Controller lets you create your own heating schedule easily via a smartphone app.

You can set the heating to come on at any time you want on any day of the week, according to your daily habits and then - after the first week - the HUB Controller will know what to do.

Basically, the software records the times and the days when you set the heating to come on and will replicate it on the following weeks.

However, there’s no need to worry if your schedule changes as you can overwrite it at any time via the app or directly on the thermostat itself.

Will it save me money?

First thing’s first, the HUB Controller costs €249 to buy via the HUB Controller website.

All smart thermostats do claim to save money - and cover the cost of purchase - over time and, in theory, allowing you to better manage your heating - and being able to see your usage more clearly - should definitely make a difference to your bills.

During the first 4 billing cycles, the HUB Controller learns all about your energy supplier, your heating system, your home, and your habits.

After that period of time, you will be able to set a daily, weekly or monthly heating budget and the HUB will control the heating efficiently to stay within this budget.
