Digiweb has entered into a partnership with SIRO and will launch a number of 100% fibre optic broadband packages for both residential and business customers, starting from later this year.

The speed of these packages will range from 150Mbps to 1Gbps, with pricing starting at €45 per month. The packages will go live in Dundalk, Letterkenny and Drogheda during 2016, before Digiweb increases its availability across the country as SIRO’s rollout continues.

Sean Atkinson, SIRO’s chief executive, said that the partnership with Digiweb illustrates how SIRO is driving competition in Ireland’s broadband marketplace.

SIRO’s main advantage over other networks is that it offers a 100% fibre-optic internet connection, with no copper connection at any point in the network.

Mr. Atkinson said that SIRO aims to migrate Ireland to 100% fibre-optic networks to “ensure that people across the country can avail of next generation services and drive the economy forward”.

Speeds like those being offered by Digiweb through this partnership will be of huge benefit to businesses and households in the communities where these packages are due to be rolled out.

Currently, the digital divide between urban and rural areas of Ireland is stark, but SIRO’s rollout is starting to close this gap, and hopefully this partnership will mean further progress in this area.

Recent research from Switcher.ie showed that speed is one of the most important factors for people when deciding on a broadband provider, coming second only to price. The research also showed that half of us aren’t satisfied with our home broadband speed at the moment.

Declan Campbell, Managing Director of Digiweb, said that the company is pleased to be able to offer customers SIRO-powered broadband packages of up to 1Gbps, and added: “As one of the first broadband retailers to offer services on the SIRO network, this is the latest milestone as part of our strategy of delivering the best broadband experience in the country.”
