This afternoon, Virgin Media has announced that it is bringing broadband speeds of up to 360Mbps to Tullamore.

The company expects to bring these speeds to over 2,000 homes and businesses in Tullamore for the very first time.

We’ve already reported on how well the Virgin Media Hub performed when assessed against other modems - giving an average download speed of 282.9, which was 40% faster than eir and 34% faster than the Sky Q modem.

And even in a test of WiFi speed in a hard-to-reach location, the Virgin Media Hub still reached speeds of almost 110 Mbps.

The news will obviously make a huge difference to the homes and businesses involved - particularly as speeds like this have not been available in the area until now.

As an example of what broadband this fast can do, when using the Virgin Media Hub and 360Mbps broadband speed you can download:

  • an 8 series TV box set in HD in less than 2 minutes;
  • your favourite album in less than 10 seconds; and
  • a full movie in 22 seconds.

Speaking about the news, Paul Farrell, Vice President of Commercial at Virgin Media, said: “By bringing Ireland’s fastest broadband network into local communities, we’re showing that ultrafast broadband and top-notch TV isn’t just for big cities.

“We have been overwhelmed by the response from other local communities throughout Ireland and we’re thrilled to have finally arrived in Tullamore.”
